Beem is a highly-rated, homegrown Australian digital wallet used by over 3 million people to instantly pay, split, and request money. To date, the app has processed over $6B in transactions. We launched a digital gift card feature targeting 17 million potential Australian purchasers, offering 80+ retailers and a unique, highly personalized 'unwrapping' experience—complete with digital scratch-cards and custom animations—to make digital gifting feel truly personal.

Strategic Goal &Market Opportunity

The successful launch of the Gift Card feature secured a new revenue stream and established the Beem Wallet as a platform for thoughtful giving. By prioritizing user delight and emotional value, we achieved the following:

  • New Revenue Streams: Secured an immediate revenue channel and laid the groundwork for recurring revenue opportunities.
  • User Retention: Re-engaged existing users to drive an increase in Monthly Active Users (MAU).
  •  Market Differentiation: Positioned Beem as a premium alternative by capitalizing on the 63% of Australians who prefer digital over plastic cards.

We designed a unique 'gifting experience' featuring custom animations and our signature digital scratch-card unwrapping. To ensure maximum reach, delivery was enabled via text message, email, and a printable version for in-person gifting.

I designed a secure, effortless redemption experience that enables recipients to store gift cards directly in the Beem wallet. By featuring seamless options for scanning barcodes in-store or copying card numbers for online use, the design ensures the gift is as easy to spend as it was to receive.

To boost purchase initiation and completion rates, I addressed key pain points revealed during research. The final MVP design ensures users can:

 

  • Preview the experience: Access a live preview of the card and unwrapping animation at multiple touchpoints before payment.
  • Personalize creatively: Utilize flexible customization tools to increase emotional value and purchase intent.
